SYRACUSE, N.Y., Aug. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- After an impressive showing by McCadam Cheese earlier this month at the American Cheese Society Competition in Raleigh, North Carolina, McCadam continued its winning ways at the 2012 New York State Fair Dairy Competition. The Chateaugay, N.Y., based cheesemaker took home ten (10) awards, tying its personal best for the competition.

"This was another excellent showing for McCadam," says Tom Herbick, McCadam's creamery manager. "Our continued success is due to the hard work and dedication of our team; from our cooperative's farm-family owners, responsible for the highest quality milk in the state, to our cheesemakers and other talented employees who craft our award-winning cheese."
This year marked the 166th anniversary of the annual New York State Fair, which saw entries to the dairy competition from producers across the Empire State. McCadam captured two gold medals, five silver medals and three awards of excellence.
McCadam reined as "Cheddar King" of this year's Fair, winning five of the six available awards for cheddar. McCadam swept the "Aged" and "Super Aged" categories with its Sharp, Extra Sharp and Adirondack Cheddar. This is the third consecutive year that McCadam swept the "Aged" category, and the second consecutive gold medal for McCadam Adirondack Cheddar. McCadam also struck silver in the "Current Cheddar" category and tallied Awards of Excellence in both "Aged" and "Current Cheddar."
McCadam struck silver in the "Flavored Natural Cheese" category with Jalapeno Muenster (for the third consecutive year) and in the "Open Class Cheese" category with Muenster, plus an Award of Excellence for Pepper Jack in "Flavored Natural Cheese."
In total, ten McCadam entries were honored with scores above 95 points out of a possible 100 from the esteemed panel of judges.
It has been a strong month for awards for McCadam's cheesemakers. Earlier in August, McCadam Muenster took the blue ribbon for best Muenster in North America at the 29th Annual Competition of the American Cheese Society, held this year in Raleigh, NC.
