McClatchy's Julie Moos Named Executive Director of the National Press Club Journalism Institute

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Press Club Journalism Institute (NPCJI) announced today that Julie Moos will be its next Executive Director.

Moos joins the Journalism Institute from McClatchy. As Managing Director of News there, she has been responsible for coaching and training reporters and editors in 30 newsrooms on journalism challenges ranging from fair use to audience-centered storytelling, while simultaneously leading a real-time news team of reporters and editors who drive millions of readers to McClatchy products every month.

Moos also spent 11 years at the Poynter Institute, renowned for its mid-career professional development programs for journalists.

"Julie Moos brings to our Journalism Institute broad experience in print, digital and broadcast newsrooms, which will be invaluable in designing a professional development program that serves journalists at every stage of their careers," said Barbara Cochran, President of the NPCJI Board of Directors. Moos joined McClatchy in 2013 following her work at the Poynter Institute, overseeing Poynter.org, editing "Best Newspaper Writing" and New York Times-bestselling front page books, launching an iTunesU No. 1 podcast, and teaching in digital journalism and leadership seminars. Prior to Poynter, Moos spent seven years at market-leading WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC, the nation's most innovative local TV station, running WRAL.com, writing for morning broadcasts, and producing news graphics.

Moos succeeds the beloved and longtime NPCJI executive director Julie Cooper Schoo, who unexpectedly passed away in May 2018. Moos was chosen by the NPCJI Board of Directors after a search process led by Angela Greiling Keane, Deputy States Editor at Politico and a former National Press Club president. Moos assumes her new position on Jan. 7, 2019.
