Media advisory - Dairy Farmers of Canada, in Washington D.C to comment on NAFTA DAIRY negotiations
When: Wednesday, June 14, and Thursday, June 15, 2017
WASHINGTON, DC, June 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ - Earlier this year, President Trump pointed to Canada's dairy system as one that harms American dairy farmers. A look at the numbers paints a different picture. Canada has a supply managed system which means that Canadian dairy producers only produce the milk forecast for their domestic market. It seems that the US dairy industry wants to get involved in Canada domestic policies.
"Dairy Farmers of Canada will continue to support dairy trade between Canada and the United States through the NAFTA renegotiation process," said Wally Smith, President of Dairy Farmers of Canada. "We will be supportive as long as they maintain a focus on trade and not on our domestic supply management system," he added.
Wally Smith is available to comment on NAFTA renegotiations, and to speak about the benefits of Canada's supply management system for dairy farmers and consumers.
