Media Advisory: Charter School Parents Rally Against "Charter Killer" Bill
LOS ANGELES, April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Parents from charter schools throughout Los Angeles will rally to demand that Senator Tony Mendoza drop his proposed bill that families have dubbed a "charter killer." SB 808 would enable school districts to deny any new charter school and shut down any existing charter school, if the school is deemed an imposition on the district's finances. The bill would also prevent charters who are rejected by their districts from appealing to the county or state.
"This legislation is an extreme and insensitive attack not just on charter schools, but on families like mine who rely on charters to provide the kind of education our kids need," said charter mom Mireya Baldenebro. "This bill would make it far too easy for school districts to close great charter schools, for no good reason at all, and that's not right or fair to us."
