Media Advisory: Panel to Offer Women, Minorities, Vets Advice on Succeeding in the Procurement Field
When Selling Products or Services to the Government, "Supplier Diversity" Is the Biggest Buzzword
NEW YORK, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Procurement company HeadExposed (NYC), will host a panel discussion, entitled "DIVERSITYNYC 2014," taking place on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 12:00-3:00 PM. The talk is aimed at increasing awareness of supplier diversity in procurement, and the selling of goods or services to corporate entities and government agencies.
This event is open to the public, and admission is free. Tickets, however, must be reserved in advance. Early registration is encouraged, since space is limited and no walk-ins are allowed.
The location is The New York City Small Business Solutions Center, at 168-25 Jamaica Avenue, 2nd floor, Jamaica, Queens. It is being offered in cooperation with New York City Business Solutions, GovPurchase, Stampede Starter, Laguardia SBDC, and Brandbuilder.
"Corporations, and government at the federal, state, and local levels are actively seeking to do business with minorities, women, vets, and the LGBT community. What are called 'diverse-owned businesses' is the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. economy, generating almost a half a trillion dollars in annual revenue," says Nelson Nigel, CEO for HeadExposed. Nigel, himself an immigrant to the United States from Guyana, says "Women owned businesses generate two and a half times that amount, and create an untold number of jobs. A Panel of Specialists in Business Diversity
The panelists include Nigel himself of HEADEXPOSED, who has published a series of informational e-books on women and minorities in the procurement field; Kim Thompson of Govpurchase, the country's largest government contracting database; Danilo Djuretic, SBDC (Small Business Development Center) Advisor at LaGuardia Community College; and Lloyd Cambridge of NYC Business Solutions. The moderator is Akia Garnett, author of Seen and Sustained for Small and Diverse Businesses, speaker, and adjunct professor of Business and Marketing for Trinity University of Washington, DC. Garnett is CEO of advisory firm Brandbuilder, and a writer for Minority Business Entrepreneur magazine.
A series of questions will be put to each of the panelists, covering various areas of the main topic. Among them will be such issues as the state of the marketplace, what the opportunities for diverse-owned small businesses are, and finding community resources. This will be followed by an open Q and A for the audience.
