MedicAlert Foundation and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Launch Seconds Save Lives to Inform and Educate the Public About Medical Emergencies
TURLOCK, Calif., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- MedicAlert Foundation, in collaboration with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), announced the release of the Seconds Save Lives educational campaign. Seconds Save Lives is a national campaign designed to educate the public about medical emergencies. The campaign's consumer brochure is currently being distributed to emergency departments throughout the United States for placement in their patient waiting rooms. Seconds Save Lives is featured on ACEP's consumer website at www.EmergencyCareForYou.org and MedicAlert Foundation's website at www.medicalert.org/SecondsSaveLives. Emergency personnel are encouraged to order brochures for their departments by contacting MedicAlert Foundation at 1-800-ID-ALERT™ (1-800-432-5378).
"Nobody plans an emergency, but there are steps you can take to be prepared when emergencies happen," says ACEP president, Dr. Angela Gardner. "Everyone is only one step away from a medical emergency, and in an emergency, seconds can save lives."
The Seconds Save Lives consumer brochure offers tips on preventing and preparing for medical emergencies, as well as recognizing the signs and symptoms of emergencies in adults and children. The brochure also offers advice on the importance of emergency medical information and identification services, when to call for help, what to say to emergency responders, and what to do while waiting for help to arrive. Additionally, ACEP's consumer website features health and safety tips, and a new Emergency Manual, which can be downloaded for free at http://www.EmergencyCareForYou.org/EmergencyManual/Default.aspx.
"We couldn't be more pleased about working with the nation's leading emergency physicians at ACEP and the Seconds Save Lives campaign," says Andrew B. Wigglesworth, president and CEO of MedicAlert Foundation. "MedicAlert Foundation wholeheartedly supports this educational effort as we firmly believe that informing consumers will lead to improved patient safety and outcomes. It is vital that the public understand what to do in an emergency and how emergency medical information and identification services will assist emergency personnel in responding to their emergency medical needs."
