MedStar Health Facilities Top List of Best Hospitals in Washington-Baltimore Region According to National Survey
MedStar's Washington Hospital Center Takes Top Honor in Washington, DC - Seven MedStar Hospitals Place in Top 11 in their Respective Regions
COLUMBIA, Md., March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Seven MedStar Health facilities were ranked as top hospitals in the Washington and Baltimore regions by U.S. News and World Report. Of the 57 hospitals reviewed by the publication in the Washington D.C. region, all three of the not-for-profit's hospitals located in the nation's capital were ranked in the top five. Washington Hospital Center received the top spot with Georgetown University Hospital and the National Rehabilitation Hospital placing third and fifth respectively.
In Baltimore, where 31 hospitals were reviewed, MedStar facilities placed four in the top 11 including three in the top five. Union Memorial Hospital received the third place spot with Good Samaritan Hospital and Franklin Square Hospital Center placing fourth and fifth respectively. Harbor Hospital placed near the top third with an 11th place ranking.

This is the first year that U.S. News and World Report has ranked hospitals by regions with a population of at least 1 million residents. The publication reviewed over 4,800 hospitals across the nation and based their rankings on four criteria: Reputation (Includes a blind survey of over 200 physicians per specialty), mortality index, a patient safety index and other factors (nurse staffing, technology, quality of care).
