CAMPBELL, Calif., March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Award-winning Mercury News columnist Patty Fisher has been selected to become the Director of Policy and Communications for The Health Trust.

"We are excited to add Patty to our executive team.  Her extensive experience in journalism and her understanding of community issues will be invaluable in helping The Health Trust achieve our vision of Silicon Valley becoming the healthiest region in America," said Frederick J. Ferrer, Chief Executive Officer of The Health Trust.

Fisher has 30 years of experience in news coverage of the Silicon Valley community.  For the past six years she has authored a column in the Mercury News that offered reflections on important issues through the personal stories of local individuals.  Previously, she served on the Editorial Board of the Mercury News giving her firsthand knowledge of all the critical policy challenges of Silicon Valley.

At The Health Trust, Fisher will be responsible for advancing the policy direction of The Health Trust's Healthy Aging, Healthy Living, and Healthy Communities Initiatives as well as overseeing communications.

Fisher will begin the new post on April 1, 2011.
