In today's enterprise networking environment, wireless will be increasingly treated as the primary network access method, as its raw performance exceeds Fast Ethernet. In the panel session, titled "The All-Wireless Enterprise: Can Wire Be Replaced?", Epstein elaborates on the current role of wireless within the enterprise, and the shift that has taken place as wireless moves from a network of convenience to one that is more economical and operationally-efficient for business. Additionally, he will describe how certain trends such as the proliferation of devices, dependence on applications and security over wireless and the maturity of technologies such as 802.11n, are driving companies toward an All-Wireless Enterprise™. Epstein will also discuss the requirements for organizations as they begin to migrate over to a predominantly wireless network infrastructure. This panel session will serve as a debate between four industry insiders in the wireless networking space, including Epstein, on the role of wireless in enterprise networking going forward. The session will be moderated by IDC's director of enterprise communications infrastructure, Rohit Mehra.
Epstein is a Meru Networks wireless innovator and industry thought leader, instrumental with articulating the technology vision of the company. Additionally, he chairs the Voice over Wi-Fi Technical Certification Task Group for the Wi-Fi Alliance®, and is a contributing author for the IEEE 802.11 standards. His background includes wireless networking, routing, systems and applications targeted for Fortune 500 enterprises. Epstein also authored the book, 'Scalable VoIP Mobility: Integration and Deployment', which discusses 802.11n and how the standard directly impacts voice mobility. He has a B.S. in EECS from the University of California, Berkeley.
