AUBURN, Ind., April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Messenger LLC, the leading funeral stationery manufacturer in North America, is commemorating its 100th anniversary in business. The company was founded on March 24, 1913, by Frank M. Messenger, a deeply religious man who first introduced Sacred Art Religious Calendars before focusing the company's resources on funeral stationery products.
Frank Messenger was 61 years old when he began to manufacture religious scripture-verse calendars. In just seven months of operation, Messenger sold 100,000 religious calendars to families, businesses and churches. By 1918, the company had surpassed the one million mark for the first time in number of calendars sold.
It was during the 1930's when Messenger expanded its product offering to include funeral stationery. Funeral homes were then the principle buyers of Sacred Art Calendars and Messenger embraced the opportunity to further service the needs of this market segment.
By the 1970's, sales of funeral stationery products surpassed calendar sales as Messenger's largest product segment. By the 1980's, Messenger achieved market leader status as the funeral industry's leading stationery supplier where they remain today. This growth can be attributed in part to the fact Messenger was the first to coordinate the graphic themes of its funeral stationery products. Utilizing licensed art of appropriate color and subject matter, the various stationery products necessary for conducting a funeral not only coordinated but also complimented the life of the deceased.
"Frank Messenger's story is one of purpose, achievement and integrity," said Kevin Keane, President of Messenger. "Most companies do not achieve a milestone such as we have with our 100th year in business. The guiding principles our founder instilled from day one – conviction, innovation and integrity – are the same principles that will continue to guide our organization well into the next century."
