BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Meteor Games, an innovative social gaming developer focused on creating richer, more engaging content, announced today the appointment of Michael Walrath, co-founder of WGI Group and former CEO of Right Media, to its Board of Directors. Walrath's addition comes on the heels of a recent WGI investment in Meteor Games earlier this year.
"Adding Mike to our Board marks another significant milestone in the evolution of Meteor," said Zac Brandenberg, Meteor's CEO. "His addition reinforces the huge potential of what we have set out to achieve, as do the various other new hires we have made on both the executive and game development sides. Mike's long history in developing innovative technology platforms and track record of success in identifying companies positioned for growth serves as evidence of the impact his leadership and investment will bring."
Prior to co-founding WGI, Walrath was the founder and CEO of Right Media before its acquisition by Yahoo! in July 2007 at a value of $850 million. Walrath then served as Senior Vice President of Advertising Strategy for Yahoo! through 2009. At Right Media, Walrath helped transform the business of online advertising by leveling what had traditionally been an uneven playing field and moving the industry towards more efficiency, transparency and accountability for every transaction.
Notable investments by WGI include Adroit, acquired by Media Math, and Handipoints, acquired by Slide prior to its sale to Google. Outside of these investment activities, Walrath co-founded Atlas Films, creators of the award winning documentary Tapped, and oversees The Walrath Family Foundation with his wife.
"I'm thrilled to join the board of such a thriving social gaming developer as Meteor Games," said Walrath. "2010 has been a banner year for Meteor Games, with the achievement of several key milestones that have bolstered our confidence in management's ability to continue to deliver. We see Meteor Games unbridled dedication to quality and player immersion as a key factor that will lead to its position as a top social game developer in the years to come."
In addition to Walrath, Meteor has made a number of strategic appointments over the past six months, including adding Barry Collier as Chief Technology Officer and Gary Cooperman as Chief Financial Officer. Brandenberg stepped into the CEO role in July, having served on the Board since Meteor's founding.
