Metropolis Collectibles Doubles Showroom Size: Moves to Prime Midtown Manhattan Location
NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Hot on the heels of its record-breaking $3.2 million purchase of the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics #1, Metropolis Collectibles, the world's largest vintage comic dealer, is moving from its current 2,500 sq. ft. location in Manhattan's Flatiron District to a 5,000 sq. ft. showroom in midtown Manhattan.
Metropolis and its sister company, ComicConnect, the largest online comic and art auction house, are moving to 36 West 37th Street in mid-November.
Fittingly enough, the team that regularly shatters records for million-dollar comic book transactions is moving into a space already rich in pop culture significance.
Located in the heart of Herald Square, the location was previously home to the legendary Skyline Recording Studios, where iconic figures such as James Brown, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, the B-52's and the Wu-Tang Clan recorded. Soon, it will be home to the likes of Superman and Batman.
"Our new showroom is twice as large as our previous location and has a great layout that will support our continued expansion," says Metropolis COO Vincent Zurzolo. "It's centrally located and will provide a wonderful work environment, underscoring our commitment both to customers and employees."
"It's a big step up from my parents' basement, which is where I got my start."
Through consistent buying, selling, and trading of collectibles, Metropolis has amassed an inventory of more than 150,000 vintage comics. The company holds four Guinness World Records for all-time high comic and collectibles transactions and was the first to break the million dollar threshold in 2010, a figure it more than doubled in 2011 with the $2.1 million sale of yet another Action Comics #1.
Metropolis's new address is 36 West 37th Street – 6th Floor, New York, NY 10018. The main phone number will remain the same (212-260-4147) as will all email addresses.
