MEXICO CITY, Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released today by Marca Pais – Imagen de Mexico:

Every year, the migration of the beautiful Monarch butterflies from Canada to Mexico occurs in the fall as they look for warm weather. Inspired by this incredible natural migration that has mesmerized scientists and admirers for decades, Canadian-based film and television company SK Films is proud to present a spectacular insight to this mysterious migration through the film "Flight of the Butterflies in 3D" at its world premiere to be held at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. on September 24, 2012. Watch the trailer and be amazed by the compelling story of a courageous scientist's 40-year search to find the secret migration destination of monarchs.

Through SK Films' expertise in the Giant Screen/IMAX® film industry – and thanks to the support of Mexican firms Grupo Bimbo and FEMSA, among other organizations – the "Flight of the Butterflies in 3D" film will narrate how every fall, the tens of millions of Monarch butterflies that live east of the Rocky Mountains travel up to 80 miles a day to avoid the incoming winter. The monarchs' brilliant orange-red wings, decorated with black and white, seem to melt together to form a striking cloud of color as they fly. Those lucky enough to see it say it is a marvelous natural phenomenon.

The cold weather is the most obvious threat to these delicate creatures, but many other obstacles lie in their way to Mexico, such as habitat destruction and harm to their food sources. For this reason, many organizations are constantly supporting the preservation of the Monarch butterflies and their ecosystem to ensure the continuity of this annual migration. For example, film sponsor FEMSA has had an active participation in supporting, promoting and caring of the monarch butterflies on the score of its principal of creating social, economic and environmental value simultaneously, and create a broader awareness of caring for today and future generation resources. In addition to promoting the film, FEMSA has a commemorative Coca Cola can – now available in stores – to advocate the importance of the Monarch butterfly in Mexico, among other initiatives. Also, Mexican baking company Grupo Bimbo is also sponsoring the film which perfectly aligns with the company's culture of environmental care, and with the hope that adults and children become more aware, more environmentally responsible, and helps create a better place to live.

The "Flight of the Butterflies in 3D" is a masterpiece that cannot be missed. After its world premiere in D.C., the film will begin playing in select theaters across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Look for the Monarch butterflies film in a theater near you!
