Meyda Tiffany Supports VIEW, Old Forge, NY's New Arts Center; Workshop Named Meyda Tiffany & Lighting Creative Arts Wing
OLD FORGE, N.Y., Aug. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Meyda Tiffany has pledged to support the workshop wing of VIEW, the new Arts Center in Old Forge, New York. To honor Meyda Tiffany and encourage other donors to support the facility, the new workshop has been named the "Meyda Tiffany & Lighting Creative Arts Wing." Meyda Tiffany is America's leading manufacturer and designer of custom lighting solutions and decorative accessories.
"We are proud to support VIEW, the Arts Center in Old Forge," explains Robert Cohen, CEO of Meyda Tiffany. "Our company is delighted to support the creative arts, artisans and those entering this exciting field of endeavor. Meyda has always supported aspiring designers and craftspersons, on the local, national and international levels, and we will continue to do so into the future."
In addition to making the pledge, Meyda Tiffany has challenged other donors by matching any new funds three-to-one, to help reach the facility's $500,000 goal. The wing houses a large pottery studio with electric and gas kilns, a glazing booth, clay recycling and hand building areas. It also includes a teaching kitchen and a multi-purpose workshop for painting, jewelry, woodworking, and children's classes.
The creative arts wing was named after Meyda Tiffany, which is owned by Robert and Ellie Cohen. The Cohen family has early arts and crafts roots in upstate New York. In 1974, Meyda Tiffany was founded when Meyer Cohen was asked by his wife Ida (Meyda was created by combining Meyer with Ida) to build a stained glass window in the kitchen of their home. What began as a hobby evolved into America's leading and oldest manufacturer of custom and decorative lighting. The family owned a home in Old Forge, where they founded well-known spots for tourists including the Meyda Tiffany Stained Glass Studio retail shop and Nutty Putty Miniature Golf Course (featuring stained glass lanterns and other Meyer Cohen innovations).
In addition, Meyda Tiffany has designed, manufactured and donated all of the decorative lighting to the new facility.
