Michigan American Legion Boys State Accepting Applications
LANSING, Mich., March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Michigan American Legion 74th annual Boys State Program is accepting applications for its June 19-25, 2011 session at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
Application is open to 11th grade male high school students, including those in accredited home school programs, who are at least 15 years of age by May 30, 2011. Applicants can seek the $310 sponsorship fee and applications from American Legion posts by contacting Deanna Clark at state headquarters 517.371.4720 ext. 11, email: [email protected], or from civic organizations, businesses, and personal finances. The application can also be downloaded from the programs link at www.michiganlegion.org, or from high school counselors.
Boys State is an educational program sponsored by American Legion state headquarters nationwide to help young men learn about government and how it works. Its motto is "Learn by Doing".
Several students from each state's program will be selected to attend the National American Legion's Boys Nation program in Washington DC following the state program. A few prominent Boys Nation alumni include Bill Clinton, Neil Armstrong, Tom Brokaw, and Michael Jordan.
