Michigan House and Its Hard-Earned Style Coming Home to ArtPrize Seven
DETROIT, Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After bringing the Great Lakes State to Austin, Texas for SXSW 2015, Michigan House is coming home. Michigan House, a roving pop-up space where some of the state's most dynamic companies, organizations, artists and entrepreneurs come together to tell their stories, will be taking residence at ArtPrize Seven on Ottawa Avenue in the Trust Building in Grand Rapids, Mich. from Sept. 23 – Oct. 11.
The House will serve as an influential voice and a hub of activity highlighting the creativity that exists year-round within the region. It will play host to concerts, speakers, panel discussions, corporate gatherings, yoga classes, art and photography classes, food and drink tastings, pop up retail, out of town guests and a weekly dance party: all of this while surrounded by an expertly curated collection of Michigan-made furniture, art and design.
Michigan House is spearheaded by Creative Many Michigan – a Detroit-based statewide economic development organization for the arts, culture and creative and design industries – and produced by Middle West. Sponsors like the Michigan Film and Digital Media Office, Brightly, GR Current, Herman Miller, Mighty in the Midwest, OST, Wolverine Worldwide, Start Garden, CWD Real Estate and ArtPrize, among others, will band together to show off a Michigan that is thriving - not just surviving.
"It's a unique event that brings some of our favorite things together under one roof – passionate people, innovative ideas, technology and design – with the backdrop being the great State of Michigan," said Michael Lomonaco, director of marketing and communications at OST. "We're passionate at OST about telling our story through our people and the innovative solutions they provide. This is an utterly unique way to do just that."
"With a rich legacy of creativity and innovation across our state's history, Michigan's creative and design industries are strategically poised today for increased growth. The Michigan House at ArtPrize will cultivate heightened visibility for these unique assets and establish resources and networks that will accelerate business and economic development opportunities statewide," said Jennifer Goulet, president & CEO, Creative Many Michigan.
After its 19-day stay in Grand Rapids, Michigan House is next slated to appear in Detroit for the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January. "Michigan House at ArtPrize is an introduction to what we want to do in other cities. The Michigan House is a living, breathing experience—like a space capsule of the best things about this place we call home—that can be transported into crowds of people to show (not tell) the story they've missed," said Paul Moore of Start Garden.
"We started a conversation in Austin about the value of creativity in our state, and we learned the power of telling our stories together. Now we get to continue the conversation. We get to invite some new friends. We get to add more detail to the narrative. We get to show off our own backyard," said Middle West Co-Creator Ted Velie.
