Miles for Military Names USMC Veteran and Yale Divinity Graduate as Executive Director

Jack Boger will Lead Non-Profit that Provides Support For Junior Enlisted Service Members Through Flights Home

BOSTON, March 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Miles for Military, a nonprofit that provides flights home for active-duty junior enlisted personnel for holidays and other important dates, announced the hiring of Jack Boger—a Marine Corps veteran, social entrepreneur, and recent Yale graduate student—as its executive director.

Boger brings to Miles for Military a wide range of leadership and philanthropic experience, as well as a family heritage of service in the American military dating back nearly three centuries.

Miles for Military, which was founded by Maureen Byrne, a Massachusetts woman and mother of a Marine, serves an unmet need among enlisted service members in the most junior ranks, many of whom cannot afford to fly home for milestone events such as holidays, birthdays or family gatherings. The organization provides flights home at no cost in return for the service members volunteering at a charity of their choice. During this past holiday season, Miles for Military flew nearly 50 service members on leave to hometowns across the country.

Miles for Military is seeking to grow its donor base through corporate partnerships and private donations to expand its program nationwide. The organization intends to increase its impact by flying hundreds of junior enlisted service members home and developing relationships with additional bases to support all service branches this year.

Boger recently completed graduate studies at Yale Divinity School, where he focused on ethical leadership, spiritual healthcare, and nonprofit management. He views his leadership role at Miles for Military as a prime opportunity to apply his training, education, and experience in an operational capacity for an important mission.

Boger served as a ground intelligence officer in the United States Marine Corps from 2014-18, leaving active duty as a captain. Stationed aboard Camp Pendleton with the 1st Marine Division, he deployed twice with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, first to Australia with Marine Rotational Force-Darwin as a rifle platoon commander and then on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit as an intelligence officer.

Following his Marine Corps service, Boger attended Stanford Ignite, an entrepreneurship program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and worked at several startups, including Atomic, a San Francisco venture capital firm and studio. He has consulted for family foundations on philanthropic issues ranging from Native American religious freedom to human security in the Middle East and spent several summers volunteering on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. 

Boger has provided leadership training at the University of Texas at Austin to students at the McCombs School of Business and the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Additionally, he has worked with the Veterans Mental Healthcare Leadership Coalition to advocate on Capitol Hill for greater access for veterans to breakthrough mental health therapies and innovative treatments. 

Boger is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, where he was a James Freedman Presidential Scholar and Rockefeller Leadership Fellow.

His family has a long history of military service in the United States dating back to the French and Indian Wars and the American Revolution. During World War Two, his grandfather, Willett Boger, served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy, sailing with Admiral William "Bull" Halsey's fleet in the South Pacific Theater.
