Military Special Operations Veterans and High Impact Social Entrepreneurs Are Jumping Out of a Plane at 24,000' + to Break World Records, Form Strong Bonds, and Raise Funds for The Special Operations Warrior Foundation on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2015
MIAMI, Nov. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Please join Tactivate and former United States Air Force Pararescueman Jimmy Petrolia this Veterans Day, November 11 in his quest to break two wingsuit skydiving world records. Jimmy, a 22-year combat veteran, with thousands of jumps, multiple combat deployments including Iraq and Afghanistan and search and rescue missions in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, will jump from almost six miles above Napa, California, a height of almost 20,000 feet higher than a typical demonstration skydive. The extra height and Jimmy's wingsuit will allow the decorated Air Force veteran to challenge the distance and time world records. Jimmy's wingsuit flight will benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a top-rated nonprofit organization that provides college scholarships to the children of fallen special operations personnel. Tactivate, an initiative that meshes the military special operations veteran and entrepreneurial communities is sponsoring Jimmy on this record attempt and is hosting an intimate gathering for social impact entrepreneurs and Special Operations Veterans at the Inn at Park Winters in Winters, CA between November 9th and 11th in conjunction with the record attempt.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that every child of fallen Special Operations Forces receive a fully funded college education. In addition to providing funding for full post-secondary educations, the SOWF also provides active counseling, mentorship and professional tutors. The foundation currently has 143 students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country, and another 700 students in the program who are not yet college age. Last year, the foundation provided $3.5M in scholarship grants.
"There are those I have had the honor to serve with during my career in Combat Search and Rescue that have paid the ultimate price. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation steps in to support the children of these individuals in ways that forever positively impact their lives. I am attempting to break these world records to shed light on this organization that serves to safeguard a community I am forever grateful and humbled to have had the honor to be a part of." - Jimmy Petrolia, Ret. USAF Pararescueman
"The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is based on a battlefield promise to take care of the children of fallen warriors," said retired Navy Vice Admiral Joseph Maguire, SOWF President & CEO. "We are fortunate to have people like Jimmy, who truly believe in our noble mission, to help raise awareness and funds for college educations for the sons and daughters of fallen Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations warriors."
In conjunction with the record attempt, Tactivate has invited a select group of high impact social entrepreneurs to participate in a high altitude low opening (HALO) skydive from 24,000' and a day of weapons and medical training with the Tactivate team.
"During the event to support Jimmy on the record attempt, a diverse group of influencers including a Harvard Gleitsman Scholar on Social Change, a former Spokesman for the U.S. Special Operations Command and angel investors will gather in a bespoke setting at the Inn at Park Winters to explore creative ways in which Tactivate may continue to empower effectively activating Special Operations Veterans in the private sector." - Jesse Levin, Founder and Senior Cultural Chameleon of Tactivate.
Tactivate upholds that Special Operations Veterans are among the nation's most valuable untapped entrepreneurial assets. Creative events such as this are designed to bring the SOF Veteran and entrepreneurial communities together for mutual skillshare, cross-cultural familiarization and relationship building.
