NEW YORK, June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Milk from the Heart, a project of New York City social services provider Homes for the Homeless, and Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon, have joined together to raise funds to provide fresh, free lowfat milk to low-income children in New York City.
The Milk from the Heart campaign will be on the New York City Groupon Grassroots page beginning on Monday, June 18, 2012, and running through Sunday, June 24, 2012. Utilizing Groupon Grassroots' collective action model, Groupon subscribers can pledge support for the Milk from the Heart initiative in increments of $3, with each $3 donation providing two quarts of milk to a child who needs it.
Milk from the Heart helps address the problems of both obesity and hunger by distributing free, fresh milk from its mobile truck at 10 different sites throughout the Bronx. Last year, Milk from the Heart distributed more than 100,000 quarts of fresh low-fat milk. Although it has 10 active sites, organizations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens frequently request distribution sites in their communities due to the high level of need in these neighborhoods.
"We are excited to work with Groupon Grassroots to raise support for the needs of low-income families in the Bronx," said Homes for the Homeless President and CEO Ralph da Costa Nunez. "We look forward to harnessing the power of small donors, and creating new awareness of Milk from the Heart."
100% percent of the Groupon Grassroots campaign proceeds will be used to provide milk to low-income children in New York City.
Milk from the Heart was founded by Homes for the Homeless, a leading New York City-based social services provider. Homes for the Homeless understands that poverty is a family issue.
