ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Mill Creek Residential, a leading multifamily investor and operator specializing in premier apartment communities across the U.S., today announced the Grand Opening of Portner Brewhouse at its Modera Tempo community.

The brewpub sits as the centerpiece of the ground floor at Modera Tempo, a mixed-use community featuring 492 apartment homes that opened in Jan. 2015 as part of the City of Alexandria's Landmark/Van Dorn Small Area Plan. Portner Brewhouse joins Starbucks, Smashburger, Jimmy Johns and others that are located onsite at Modera Tempo. The brewpub had a soft opening on Feb. 25 before the Grand Opening on Feb. 28.

Portner Brewhouse, situated at the intersection of South Van Dorn and South Pickett Streets on the front-facing side of the community, is inspired by the South's largest pre-Prohibition brewpub, the Robert Portner Brewing Company. The new brewpub is the creation of two of Portner's great-great granddaughters, who insisted on an Alexandria location to coincide with the history of the original, which was headquartered in Old Town Alexandria from 1869 until prohibition was implemented in 1916.

Modera Tempo and its retail outlets have become a catalyst for the Landmark/Van Dorn Small Area Plan, an initiative to revitalize the area into a lively urban neighborhood that coincides with the booming Washington, D.C. metro-area market.
