Million Dollar Women Symposium Strikes Note of Optimism
Women-owned businesses succeeding, even in down economy
SALEM, Mass., Nov. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Doom and gloom had no place at the sixth annual Million Dollar Women Symposium, held November 3rd at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA. Five panelists and the keynote speaker, all women heading companies with revenues exceeding $1 million, were optimistic and encouraging, sharing their strategies for growth, weathering the recession, and balancing demanding lives.
They acknowledged the difficulties posed by a sluggish economy, but focused on determinants of success independent of the economy—passion, personal learning, and hiring top-notch people.
"This isn't surprising," commented Christine Sullivan, CEO of the Enterprise Center. "What has always made Million Dollar Women unique is panelists' willingness to share their stories and encourage women to go for success on a big scale. It's inspiring and empowering."
Panelists included Joanna Meiseles, Founder & Creative Director, The Snip-its Corporation; Regina Villa, Principal & Owner, Regina Villa Associates; Kathleen Murphy, President & Co-Owner, Chi Solutions, Inc.; Sue Welch, Founder & CEO, TradeStone Software; and Nancy Mobley, Founder and CEO, Insight Performance, Inc. From their evaluation of areas of opportunities to the most difficult thing they had to learn, the panelists educated, enlightened and encouraged the nearly 150 attendees.
Keynote speaker Julie Palen, Senior Vice President of Mobile Device Management, Tangoe, Inc., and former Founder and CEO of InterNoded Inc., described her wild ride from starting her own business, selling it to a larger company and now working in the new company as a division leader.
The symposium has been sponsored by Beverly Cooperative Bank since its founding. Already plans are underway for next year's event. If you know a potential panelist, please contact Laura Swanson at [email protected] or 978-542-7031. Panelists must be the CEO or former CEO of a business with revenues exceeding $1 million. Based on the mood of the 2010 symposium, we may soon be attending the Billion Dollar Women Symposium.
