Millionaire Builds 18th Century Pirate Island in the Heart of Cambridgeshire
KETTERING, England, July 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The Master Wishmakers, creators of one-of-a-kind playhouses and themed bedrooms, introduces the first major project to their 'Limitless' service: Challis Island.
A private, multi-million pound commission by a wealthy client, with a love of all things pirate, has pushed the company's mantra of 'Hand Crafting Your Imagination' to its fullest. Nestling in a 3-metre-deep lake within 60 acres of Cambridgeshire countryside, a Caribbean island oasis was created, sending all who visit it swashbuckling back in time.
Over the course of a year and a half The Master Wishmakers laboriously drained the former 13.2 million-gallon, polluted lake before building a 6m-high island complete with a running river, lagoon, waterfall, sun deck, boat dock and beach. During this time The Black Doubloon (fully working pub), Coffer's Cabin (primary residence) and Lubber's Locker (beach hut) were crafted by hand in their workshop in rural Northamptonshire.
The buildings employ 20-year aged European Oak for the frame construction and each roof tile is individually hand-split Cedar shingle. Each individual feature has been made by hand from the ornately carved columns on The Black Doubloon to the lanterns that are scattered around the island.
One of the most remarkable details is that not a single technical drawing - computer-generated or otherwise - was produced for any of the structures. Instead craftsmen had to rely on a number of rough sketches and often just verbal explanations from the company co-founders.
"The end result is spectacular and it's a testament to the creative genius of our directors and the superb skills of our craftsmen. It showcases the pinnacle of the manufacturing skills that the United Kingdom is world-renowned for," says Marketing Director, Nino Rosella.
