Minnesota Online K-12 Schools Celebrate Their Graduating Classes of 2012

HOUSTON, Minn., June 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 175 seniors have graduated from three Minnesota K-12 online public schools over the last two weeks. To celebrate the students, the schools – Minnesota Virtual Academy, Insight School of Minnesota and iQ Academy Minnesota – distributed diplomas not through a virtual chat room, but at traditional, in-person graduation ceremonies. Many of the graduates have been accepted by colleges and universities from across the country.

Each school is tuition-free, available to Minnesota students statewide and offers individualized learning through an engaging and challenging curriculum from K12. Additional details about the schools and their respective graduation ceremonies include:        

• Minnesota Virtual Academy: An online public school associated with Houston, MN Public Schools, Minnesota Virtual Academy (www.k12.com/MNVA) is the largest online K-12 school in the state and has delivered more than 75,000 courses since its inception in 2002. Its graduation ceremony was held on June 10 at the Minnetonka Sheraton, where 60 of the 92 graduating seniors walked. Of the graduating students, five are National Honor Society members and 19 earned academic honors by maintaining a 3.5 GPA during their four years of high school. Among the colleges the students will attend this fall are Bethel and St. Cloud State.   
• Insight School of Minnesota: At Insight School of Minnesota (www.insightmn.net), a full-time, online public high school chartered through the Brooklyn Center School District, students can complete their studies at their own pace through a unique blocked quarter schedule. Insight's ceremony was held on June 9 at Brooklyn Center High School, where MN House of Representatives Member Debra Hilstrom gave the keynote speech and 30 of the 60 Insight graduates were present to receive their diplomas. Many have been accepted to such schools as Crown College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.    
• iQ Academy of Minnesota: As an accredited public school program of Independent School District 544, iQ Academy Minnesota (http://iqacademymn.org) offers Minnesota students in grades K–12 an innovative, high-quality online learning experience. Eight of the 25 graduates walked at iQ's ceremony, which was held on June 1 at Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls. iQ graduates are planning on attending numerous colleges and universities, Culinary Arts School and even starting their own daycare business. 

These graduation ceremonies are just a few examples of the face-to-face socialization opportunities that are provided for families at Minnesota Virtual Academy, Insight School of Minnesota and iQ Academy Minnesota. Other social events held throughout the school year include pizza parties, clubs and regular outings to venues such as waterparks, aquariums and baseball games.
