JACKSON, Miss., March 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Mississippi chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America lauded Magnolia State political leaders today for standing up for public safety and defeating Senate Bill 2618, a dangerous piece of legislation that would have allowed violent criminals, chronic alcoholics and dangerously mentally ill individuals to carry loaded, hidden handguns in public without a permit or any training whatsoever. The bill, which was opposed by the state's major law enforcement organizations, sought to undo decades of state law that ensures concealed firearms aren't carried in public without appropriate public safety protections.
Mississippi gun owners have consistently demonstrated their belief in the basic principle that Second Amendment rights come with responsibilities
"Our representatives displayed a real sense of decency in standing up for the concerns of Mississippi's communities and families," said Hannah Gershen Orlansky, a volunteer with the Mississippi chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. "Mississippi Moms look forward to continuing the important work of advancing common sense safety standards, while respecting the Second Amendment rights of Mississippi gun owners."
