SAVANNAH, Ga., April 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Savannah Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas ("MHPSA"), received recognition as the 2015 Georgia Manufacturer of the Year for medium-sized businesses today. Governor Nathan Deal presented the award to the leadership of MHPSA at an event held at the Georgia International Convention Center. This award is presented to manufacturers who demonstrate a high degree of corporate responsibility, provide a positive economic impact on Georgia, and who set high marks for workforce excellence.
Earlier this year, a team member of Savannah Machinery Works received the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award presented by The Manufacturing Institute in Washington, D.C. This was another major recognition in the plant's relatively short history.
The Savannah Machinery Works manufactures advanced technology fuel-efficient gas turbines, steam turbines, and provides complete gas and steam turbine services. The facility, located in the City of Pooler, near Savannah, officially opened in October 2010. The facility houses over 440,000 square feet of high technology manufacturing space and equipment. In addition to world-class turbine manufacturing, the facility provides critical services to fossil power producers throughout the Western Hemisphere. Savannah Machinery Works shipped its first M501GAC gas turbine in December 2012 to Virginia Electric and Power Company, a high efficiency turbine that meets the energy needs of the Americas.
"We are honored to be singled out by the State with this award. It confirms our commitment to both the community and to the customers we serve; to provide the highest quality and most energy efficient power generation equipment, from our key facility here in Georgia," said Dave Walsh, MHPSA President and CEO.
