Mob Invades Store Screaming, "Geronimo!" end up at State Police Barracks
BOSTON, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Families from Brookfield, Massachusetts attacked the shelves of the Ocean State Job Lot to benefit Toys for Tots. The Flash_giving Challenge was issued by We Hear The Children Inc., after learning of an increased need for toys this holiday season. Brian Tessier, founder of We Hear The Children, cooperated with Ocean State Job Lot to set up a Flash_giving. Brookfield Elementary School, Brookfield Recreation Committee, Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church, as well as area residents responded to the challenge. Ultimately, challenging its unofficial sister city, Brookfield, Wisconsin, to do the same in their community.

Tessier stated, "As a father, I feel I just don't have enough time to give back. However, I need to teach my children we are fortunate; others not so much." He continued, "I know many parents struggle with this issue, so I thought we could spare an hour and show our kids how to give as a community."
Flash_giving(s) are community-based events conceived by Tessier. The premise is a community gathers together and gives of itself for one hour to make a difference. Upon completion of the task, they issue a challenge to another community. Tessier stated, "If we truly want a better world, we start by planting the seeds in our community while teaching our kids to give back." The event was captured on video http://youtu.be/1l6pk5ouNTU
Of the event, local parent of three Kelly Landine commented, "I am so grateful for this challenge. There are endless possibilities when we come together to help those around us. Our lives are so busy, but we need to slow down and remember what is truly important: gratitude and giving. Kids learn the true spirit of giving when they have a hands-on experience. Really, while that is the essence of the holidays, we need to enact it year round; it started here today."
