Mobile Armor Announces General Availability of DriveArmor v3.0 - Centrally Managed Self-Encrypting Drives

Data Encryption Provider Teams with Seagate to Deliver Self-Encrypting Disk Drives for Desktop and Laptop Computers

Jan 11, 2010, 09:00 ET from Mobile Armor, Inc.

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Armor, Inc., a leader in data protection and encryption, today announced the general availability of DriveArmor(TM) v3.0, an enterprise-class solution for access control and managing security on laptop and desktop computers with groundbreaking 2.5-inch self-encrypting disk drives from Seagate Technology®. Mobile Armor's DriveArmor delivers remote management, strong authentication and extensive auditing and reporting capabilities for Seagate® Momentus® self-encrypting drives, designed to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data on lost or stolen computers.

"Today, it is no longer about securing devices or computers, it's about securing data - wherever it is and on whatever device," said Michael Menegay, CEO, Mobile Armor. "Mobile Armor has a reputation for developing leading-edge best of breed encryption solutions that address the inherent need to protect data-at-rest and data-in-use. DriveArmor is the latest in Mobile Armor's line of encryption products designed to ensure data integrity with sophisticated alerting, reporting and auditing capability. We are excited to work with Seagate to deliver strong security and key management for laptop and desktop PCs. Mobile Armor's enterprise-class policy and key management technology enables organizations of all sizes to comply with data breach laws."

The Seagate self-encrypting drive has been evaluated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Cryptographic Module Validation Program and is pending Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 certification. The FIPS 140-2 certification further validates that these drives are suitable for U.S. government agencies and helps all enterprise customers comply with data protection regulations.

DriveArmor offers pre-boot authentication (PBA) capability to enforce policy-driven access control as soon as the self-encrypting Momentus drive powers up, preventing unauthorized users at pre-boot from logging into the computer. Seagate's self-encrypting drive protects the data by fully encrypting it. The Seagate drive also makes it easy to repurpose and retire computers and hard drives without the risk of exposing sensitive information by performing a cryptographic erase of the encryption keys, rendering the data unreadable.

DriveArmor provides centralized management from a single management console, a single management server and a single management agent, allowing IT professionals to manage security policies, enforce compliance and produce management reports across multiple hardware configurations and operating systems.

"Global demand for Momentus self-encrypting hard drives remains strong as computer makers continue to turn to Seagate for its leadership in delivering robust security for desktop and laptop PCs," said Dave Mosley, executive vice president of Sales, Marketing and Product Line Management at Seagate. "Seagate is teaming with Mobile Armor and other leading providers of security management software to meet growing demand for strong, easy-to-use data security."

DriveArmor is sold and can be configured in two modes; as a standalone solution for deployments in smaller organizations and as a centrally managed enterprise solution. The centrally managed version of DriveArmor is built on Mobile Armor's Enterprise Policy Management Server which includes the following features:

  • Highly scalable and easy to deploy - Enables large-scale deployments and live, operational rapid deployment capabilities that lower total cost of ownership.
  • Centralized administration and key management - Administrators manage all users and devices through a single management infrastructure using Microsoft's Management Console.
  • Extensive auditing and reporting - Provides audit trail, compliance and system metric reports to management that help define and facilitate regulatory requirements.
  • Easy to repurpose or retire hard drives - Fast resets and the ability to cryptographically erase everything from the hard drive and return the hard drive to the original factory settings by sending a "device wipe" message.
  • Simplified password management - Offers several password reset choices for users to change passwords securely without administrator intervention.
  • Enhanced security - Offers pre-boot authentication that prevents unauthorized data access and security measures that detect and protect stolen devices.
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOAP/XML) - Features active directory integration, administrator hierarchy and no schema changes.
