More "Robust" Men Choosing "The Slim Cut Suit," Says Celebrity Tailor
NEW YORK, May 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mohan's Custom Tailors, clothing designer for sports, entertainment, business and political leaders, said that over the last few months they have seen a 23-percent uptick in men choosing the slim fit, English-style suit.
The slim fit suit is a highly tailored suit designed to embrace one's body and portray a sleek, tight-fitting appearance. It typically features a two-button, single-breasted jacket whose length is raised as much as an inch-and-a-half, or enough to culminate just below one's hips. It features shorter jacket sleeves, higher and narrower lapels, slightly raised armpits and slacks with a nipped-in waist.
"JFK may have started the trend, but celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Seacrest and especially Daniel Craig are fueling a craze right now that is extending to men with more traditional, slightly robust bodies," said Mohan's Sales Manager KJ Singh. "It's definitely the trending style for the summer."
However, Singh cautioned the slim fit is not a style to attempt with a suit purchased off-the-rack.
"You really need a professional's touch in tailoring the suit to your body, since there is little-to-no roominess to hide flaws," he added. "This is especially the case if you're not built like Daniel Craig, which I suppose unfortunately goes for the vast majority of us. You really want a tailor's vision."
The slim fit, or English-style, suit prominently came into fashion during the late 1950s and early 1960s and was notably embodied by President John F. Kennedy. It is best utilized in conjunction with a narrower tie that compliments the narrower width of the jacket's lapels. Over time, the style's popularity waned in favor of roomier suits, occasionally with double-breasted jackets.
