More Than 2.2 Million Pounds of Food Donated as Champion Closes the Window on Hunger
Home Improvement Company Helps Fight Summertime Hunger
CINCINNATI, Sept. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Champion Window, one of the nations largest home improvement companies, today announced the results of its summer-long program to Close The Window On Hunger which resulted in more than 2.2 million pounds of food being donated across the United States.
"When we learned that nearly 1 in 4 American children suffer from food insecurity, we knew that we had to do something to help," said Denny Manes, Chief Executive Officer of Champion Window. "We are thrilled to see this program provide so much food in its first year. The success of Close the Window on Hunger is a testament to the hard work of every Champion employee at each of our 86 showrooms and in our corporate offices."
Champion launched Close the Window on Hunger on June 1 to help fill the summertime needs of food pantries that often see a drop in donations and to help feed children while school meal programs are not available.
"Since Champion's local showrooms are located throughout the country, we decided to have each work with a local food bank for the program," said Denny Manes, CEO of Champion Window. "Each showroom donated 50 pounds of food per appointment scheduled, and an additional 100 pounds of food for every project order placed by August 31. All Champion associates participated in food drives at their showrooms and many also spent time at local food banks packaging food and assisting them in getting food out to those in need."
During the summer months, Champion's national spokesperson, Jason Cameron, Host of DIY's "Man Caves" starred in Champion's "Close the Window on Hunger" commercials, which shed light on hunger in America and the need for donations over the summer.
"For many of the nations neediest children, a school lunch plan is the only time they can count on regular meals," said Jason Cameron. "That's why I was happy to work with Champion on the "Close The Window On Hunger" campaign and help fill the need for additional food donations during the summer months when school is out."
