Mormon Idaho Resident Starts Hemp Farm in Oregon
TWIN FALLS, Idaho, Jan. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Before today, it would be highly improbable that you would hear the following terms in a single story: Idaho resident, Mormon, conservative, father of five, hemp farmer, cannabis advocate. However, these all describe Trevor Hill, who is coming out pro cannabis in a very conservative State. His company, Santa Cruz Hemp Company is one of nine industrial hemp licensees in Oregon and is now preparing to begin farming next year with the intention of producing CBD-hemp extract (Cannabidiol), the non-psychoactive constituent of cannabis, among other hemp-related byproducts.

However, Hill will not have any facilities, keep any Cannabidiol product, nor hire employees within the state of Idaho.
In April of 2015, Gov. C. L. "Butch" Otter vetoed a bill that would have legalized Cannabidiol for patients with severe forms of epilepsy, stating, "There were too many questions and problems and too few answers and solutions in this bill to let it become law," and that, "It ignores ongoing scientific testing on alternative treatments." Hill advocates, "Anyone who has done research with cannabis believes that there is far more promise than unanswered questions. This is an ancient remedy and now a modern phenomenon. We will look back on our short-sightedness on this issue with some level of embarrassment." Hemp farming for CBD extracts has become increasingly popular and accessible with the passage of The Agricultural Act of 2014 (also known as the 2014 U.S. Farm Bill), which defined industrial hemp as an extract from any part of the plant as long as it falls under the 0.3% level. Thirteen states now allow industrial hemp farming for research and/or commercial purposes - California, Colorado, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia.
