HUNTSVILLE, ON, July 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - Surf, sand and sun are all part of beach fun. With six weeks of the season to soak up, landmark Deerhurst Resort has suitcased all the summer getaway essentials.
They are also promoting safe summer fun with Deerhurst Back to the Beach tips, practical reminders from this Muskoka hotel team of recreation experts, lifeguards and boaters.
Deerhurst recently expanded its popular Splash Zone inflatable water park on Muskoka's Peninsula Lake. The array of climbing, swimming and balancing toys includes a massive Teeter Totter, an "Ice Berg" and a ball-and-ring "Saturn".
"We encourage everyone to take the plunge," says Deerhurst Director of Sports Mark O'Dell.
"Water parks aren't just for kids, and this one is right in the middle of our beautiful Muskoka lake. Climbing on and off our Deerhurst water toys is great exercise. And TV obstacle course shows like Wipeout have made even more people want to try water games."
Deerhurst Splash Zone access, which also features use of canoes, kayaks, row boat, stand-up paddle boards and windsurfers, is built right into the new Breakfast & Beach package. Designed as a fun spin on the traditional hotel "B&B" rate, this deal also includes accommodation and daily breakfast for two. With prices from $269 a night, based on a two-night stay, resort guests can save up to $150 off regular Deerhurst rates.
Life jackets as mandatory attire are included in every Splash Pass sold at Deerhurst. And to make sure everyone plays it safe, Deerhurst is spreading their Back to the Beach advice including:
- WATER EVERYONE It's important to drink lots of water while outside, not just swim in it. Taking breaks every hour to sip can help. If you or the kids don't like the taste of plain water, Deerhurst's Shizen Spa suggests adding cucumber slices, citrus, mint or berries to your H2O.
- JACKETS REQUIRED Make sure to wear your life jacket, in the right size and properly fastened, whenever you are boating or doing water-based activities. Sunscreen is also key. Remember, it takes about a shot glass full of lotion to ensure sufficient coverage on your body. Reapply regularly, especially after swimming or when sweating.
