"The Adventures of Tintin" opening December 21, 2011 (in 3D/2D theaters and IMAX 3D) is based upon the classic comic books created by the Belgian artist Georges Remi (1907–1983), who wrote under the pen name of Herge. The series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century, with translations published in more than 80 languages and more than 350 million copies of the books sold to date. Presented as a 3D Motion Capture Film, the animated film is directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson from a screenplay by Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish. The movie stars Jamie Bell ("Billy Elliot," "Defiance") as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig ("Quantum of Solace," "Defiance") as the nefarious Red Rackham. The new film also features Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones, and Mackenzie Crook. The plan by Paramount and Sony (which distributes in specific international markets) to open "The Adventures of Tintin" overseas months ahead of the December US release – where the Herge comic books are beloved – seems to be paying off.
