My Verified Pro Said Sites Like Angie's List Mean Well, But Are No Substitute for Background Checks in Verifying Tradesmen Are Who They Say They Are

BOCA RATON, Fla., April 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- My Verified Pro (www.myverifiedpro.com), a service that provides consumers with background checked professionals they hire, said sites like Angie's List are relying on consumer reviews that are not always reliable.

According to co-founder of My Verified Pro, David Fredrickson II, Angie's List allows consumer reviewed businesses to pay their way to a higher position on its website. The companies and markets that pay to advertise are displayed in a tier-one category, which Angie's List compares to the letter grade "A" on a report card.  Angie's List Inc. is a membership service that compiles consumer ratings of local service companies and contractors nationwide.

"With just a quick Google search, you can see Angie's List complaints splashed across the web. The business paid advertising on Angie's List, strips away the legitimacy of any company. Businesses should be noticed because of their trust-worthiness and work ethic, not how much they can afford to pay Angie's List," says David Fredrickson II.

Angie's List has a data department that reviews the companies' contact information to make sure it's up to date, conducts random audits for company licenses, and investigates any business issues that consumers may report.

"MVP offers a sex offender registry check and an academia & professional designation check; followed by a social security number check against past residences to verify their past locations as being accurate," said Fredrickson. 

My Verified Pro, which is currently in beta mode while professionals nationwide populate the site, was designed to help consumers feel confident, and safe when searching for a service professional. My Verified Pro does not contain third party advertisements.
