Mylan and Mylan Charitable Foundation Award a Collective $1.25 Million to Prominent West Virginia Cultural Institutions

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Mylan Inc. (Nasdaq: MYL) today announced that the company and Mylan Charitable Foundation have awarded a collective $1.25 million to support two prominent West Virginia cultural institutions – The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia and the State of West Virginia Division of Culture and History.

Heather Bresch, Mylan's president and a member of Mylan Charitable Foundation's board of directors said the awards reflect the long-standing commitment of Mylan and Mylan Charitable Foundation to support the communities we serve. "It's especially gratifying to continue our investments in West Virginia, where Mylan was founded nearly 50 years ago. Honoring our shared history and fostering the spirit of discovery, especially among children, will allow us to help keep ensuring a bright future for people in West Virginia and around the world."

The Clay Center received $750,000 from the Mylan Charitable Foundation and $250,000 from Mylan Inc. Funds from the Foundation will build the Center's permanent endowment; funds from Mylan will support programming and other initiatives.

The Center also celebrated the opening of a new, first-in-class science gallery called Mylan Explore-atory, named in recognition of Mylan Inc.'s support of the Clay Center. The gallery's inaugural exhibit, Toy Tech, will be on display through Jan. 16, 2011.

Clay Center President and CEO Judy Wellington said the funds will help the center further its mission. "We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to enhance our ability to inspire creativity, learning and wonder."

The state's Division of Culture and History received $250,000 from the Mylan Charitable Foundation for the purpose of providing educational programming for children.

Division Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith said "This generous contribution will be wonderful for our education program. It will allow us to continue providing state-of-the-art educational materials and instruction opportunities. It will also provide funding to help with transportation for children around the state to visit the Museum."

The Division's State Museum also separately unveiled the first of two exhibits about Mylan. The first exhibit is a temporary one and will be on display through Nov. 28. The second exhibit will be permanent and will open some time next month. Both exhibits will walk people through Mylan's colorful and exciting history – from its founding in 1961 in White Sulphur Springs to its transformation into the powerful, global company it is today.

Mylan Inc. will underwrite bus trips in the spring that allow children in northern West Virginia to visit Mylan Explore-atory and the State Museum.
