MyPocketChange Prepares To Make 5,000 Meals For The Homeless At UCLA
WESTWOOD, Calif., Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MyPocketChange, a nonprofit organization, is holding its first public brown bag event at UCLA's Recreation Center on Saturday, November 15th, from 10am to 4pm to kick off National Homeless Awareness week which is November 15 - 23, 2014. Volunteers and staff will be on hand, and a goal has been set to make 5,000 meals for local area homeless.
"We are very excited about this upcoming event and the number of people we will be able to help," said Van Levine, founder of MyPocketChange. The organization has been working with corporate sponsors and community organizations to pull this event together. "We've received a lot of help, and we're extremely grateful," Levine said. "We can't be where we are today without the support of our volunteers and their desire to give back to the community."
To make 5,000 meals, MyPocketChange is counting on hundreds of volunteers to help. Each meal consists of a sandwich, a snack, and a drink. There will be live music and a raffle at the event. "We hope people will come, meet like minded individuals, have some fun, and if they can, donate to support this event. We will have a coin machine to show that every penny counts," said Mrs. Levine.
