NEW YORK, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Name.com and Fyshh jointly introduced a new tool set for developers to innovate how end users experience online video using mobile applications. The new software development kit (SDK) helps developers to easily include the ability to discover, register and manage website domains directly from any iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
This collaboration addresses developers' increasing demand for building mobile video solutions. At a time when the number of consumers watching mobile video grew 51.2 percent from last year surpassing 20MM users, according to the Nielsen Mobile Video Report.
"The recent explosion of online video consumption and mobile device adoption exemplifies the need to provide developers with the building blocks to drive additional revenue opportunities around these marketplace demands," said Bill Mushkin, CEO and Founder at Name.com.
The first application built off of the SDK platform is ecaster.tv, a mobile application that enables users to capture videos directly from an iPhone or iPod Touch and share them with friends, family, or the world on a personalized .tv domain name of their choice. Ecaster.tv integrates directly with Name.com's registrar services, helping users to search for and register a .tv domain without having to switch between their mobile device and personal computer. Once the website is registered, users can then upload videos and instantly make them available to view from any Internet-enabled device.
"Imagine being able to capture videos of your daughter's first steps and have them available for viewing moments later on her own .tv domain name," stated James Hodge, director of Fyshh. "Our goal is to supply users with applications that are increasingly engaging and flush with an expanding set of capabilities. The new SDK gives us a solid foundation from which we can build applications that make domain registration and content sharing intuitive and a simple experience for users."
Video streaming is the single largest growing application type with a 92 percent increase, as revealed in the most recent Allot Mobile Trends Report. Ecaster.tv is the first tool in the market that combines the expertise of domain industry, software development and Internet infrastructure specialists, who are making it easier for developers to host and share online video.
"As the demand for mobile devices, particularly those operating on Apple's iOS platform, continue to grow in record numbers, there is an enormous opportunity to equip app developers with tools and resources that make it easier to innovate and create more engaging user experiences," said Hillarie Flood, Vice President, Naming Services at VeriSign.
Ecaster.tv will debut at the Open Video Conference in New York City on October 1-2. Developers who wish to incorporate this functionality into their own iOS applications can gain access the SDK directly from Name.com by going to www.name.tv/sdk.
