Naomi Klein, Henry Rollins and Susan Hirasuna Join the Cast of Politik's 'Substance'

LOS ANGELES, July 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - Politik (www.politik.io), a global technology media company headquartered in Los Angeles, is pleased to announce the technology discussion of the decade at their upcoming Substance (www.substance.la) conference on October 15 and 16, 2015 at the W Hollywood.

Naomi Klein (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/28/pope-climate-change-naomi-klein), author of "No Logo" and "This Changes Everything", will join Henry Rollins (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Rollins), Musician, Activist and Journalist, for the event's closing fireside discussion titled "The End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story".  Naomi Klein was recently invited to the Vatican by the Pope to discuss the state of environmental emergency on Planet Earth.

This inaugural version of Substance will challenge George Orwell's notion that "no advance in wealth, no softening in manners, no reform or revolution has ever brought human equality a millimeter nearer."

"Human beings are the foundation of a new Silicon Valley based resource economy where personal information is extracted, processed, and converted into something exponentially mercantile, said Robert Brennan Hart, CEO of Politik and Substance Chair.  "We are witnessing the most substantial transfer of wealth in human history; one where the existing ruling class of Wall Street robber barons are being replaced by insurgent technology entrepreneurs that offer up more value to a potentially broader ecosystem.  But what will Google, Facebook and Uber do with all of this newly created wealth?  Will they actually share it amongst it's many stakeholders or keep it all to themselves and give birth to yet another system of enormous inequality precisely as Orwell predicted?"

The event will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist, Susan Hirasuna (https://www.linkedin.com/pub/susan-hirasuna/5/168/52b).  Other protestors at Substance include:

  • Robert Herjavec, CEO of Herjavec Group and Star of ABC's "Shark Tank"
  • Robin Chase, CEO of Buzzcar;
  • Blake Irving, CEO of GoDaddy;
  • Fereshteh Forough, CEO of Code to Inspire
  • Anthony Bay, CEO of Rdio.

"Is technology advancing or destroying the human race? That's the question to ask. I looked out my office window today and watched a drone face off with an LAPD helicopter.  It was surreal," commented Henry Rollins.  Avasant (www.avasant.com) a leading global management consulting firm headquartered in Los Angeles, is Substance's major event partner and collaborator. "The competitive landscape is rapidly changing as new and existing players adopt digital technologies.  A platform like Substance is imperative and provides us a way to have difficult conversations that accurately reflects the way technology is challenging traditional models," said Kevin Parikh, Global CEO and Senior Partner of Avasant.

General and VIP Registration for Substance is now open at (www.substance.la/registration)
