National Military Charity Grants 100th Wish to Terminally Ill Student
Wish For Our Heroes Celebrates One Year of Wishes By Sending Child to Meet German Relatives
INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wish For Our Heroes, a national non-profit organization that grants wishes for active military, is pleased to announce the granting of it's 100th wish, exactly one year to the day of the organization's first wish.
In just one year, Wish For Our Heroes has granted wishes ranging from basic needs, to recreation and travel, with a total wish value nearing $130,000. With few operating costs, the non-profit is exceeding the gold standard, with 95% of revenues granting wishes.
The 100th wish will be presented this week to a very deserving girl, who suffers from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (half a heart). At just 7 years old, Kiara Brewster has undergone three open-heart surgeries and several catheterizations, and consistently misses school due to emergency hospital visits. Kiara's daily reality is that she, her parents, nor her doctors, know how long she has to live. Her father, SFC Bobby Brewster, recently deployed to Iraq, and separation from her father has provided additional stress for Kiara.
Kiara's family lives in Germany, but Kiara has never met them due to her medical condition, which has prevented her from flying. After receiving medical clearance, her mother, Kerstin, submitted a wish for Kiara to finally meet her family, and Wish For Our Heroes is sending Kerstin and Kiara to Frankfort over the holidays.
Wish For Our Heroes President, Jeff Wells, will surprise Kiara with the wish today at her school in Killeen, TX.
"It is an honor to present this wish to such an amazing child," explained Jeff Wells. "While her father is deployed to Iraq, Kiara and her mother face an ongoing battle at home. We want Kiara to have a memorable trip, and we hope this wish gives SFC Brewster peace of mind while away from his family. We couldn't think of a more deserving recipient for our 100th wish, and it is quite a coincidence that our 100th wish will be granted on the same day, and in the same city, as our very first wish one year ago."
