National Policy Leaders to Make Recommendations on Boosting Academic, Jobs Success Rates for High-Risk Youth
WASHINGTON, Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Senator Tom Carper, Delaware Governor Jack Markell, and former Michigan Governor John Engler will lead discussions next week on how to develop new Federal and State policies to expand upon proven programs to increase job success for at-risk youth at the Jobs for America's Graduates sixth annual National Thought Leader Event.
Governor Markell, currently the Chair of the Jobs for America's Graduates Board of Directors and of the National Governors Association, will join with Governor Engler, the current CEO of the Business Roundtable in hosting the event with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the National Urban League, and the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Funds. Discussions will focus specifically on the historic unemployment rate of disadvantaged youth, especially Hispanic and rural youth. Marc Morial, the president of the National Urban League, and the presidents of the other co-host organizations, also will speak and contribute to breakout discussions.
The Latino population is the fastest-growing minority population in the United States and they face a number of unique challenges in urban, suburban and rural settings in attaining academic and economic success that are of high-priority concern. Rural youth's challenges will be the focus of remarks by, Chris Masingill, the Chairman of the Delta Regional Authority, who will moderate the panel specific to rural youth.
Join us for these important discussions and to interact with political, business and civic leaders from across the nation.
