National Society Of High School Scholars Foundation (NSHSS Fdn) And Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) Join Forces For 2013 Earth Day Competition

ATLANTA, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Society of High School Scholars Foundation (NSHSS Fdn), a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity dedicated to supporting education in the form of scholarships for under-represented students in STEM career majors, as well as business, economics, and public policy career majors, is teaming up with Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) for a nationwide competition around Earth Day.

NSHSS Foundation and Captain Planet Foundation are hosting a competition where 10 winners will receive a $500 award and the chance to present their Earth Day project at an upcoming NSHSS member or NSHSS Foundation event.  NSHSS Fdn and CPF are committed to encouraging high school students around the globe to show their dedication to the earth through action, highlighting those that are humanitarians, leaders and creators.

"Youth represent 50% of the world population and 100% of our future.  I challenge you to be humanitarians and environmental stewards within your community in order to make our world a better place," said Claes Nobel, senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes and founder of the NSHSS Foundation.  "You are the leaders, problem solvers, visionaries, and minds of tomorrow.  This is your world.  What are you going to do to make it a better place?"

High school students around the world are encouraged to enter the competition by writing a two-page paper about an environmental project they are currently working on, or plan to start in the near future.  To supplement the paper, students should submit a work of art in the form of a photograph, painting, drawing, video, collage or song to highlight the work.  The deadline for submission is Earth Day – Monday, April 22, 2013.
