National Summit Brings Together Leaders To Focus On Campus Safety
Securus, Inc. to Sponsor Sept. 29th Event Organized by Lehigh University & Security On Campus, Inc.
BETHLEHEM, Pa., June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Twenty years after the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act took effect, the nation's most prominent thought leaders on campus safety will come together to discuss the critical issues facing colleges and universities. On September 29th, during National Campus Safety Awareness Month, Lehigh University and Security On Campus, Inc. (SOC) will present the summit, "Proceeding in Partnership: The Future of Campus Safety." The event will be held at Lehigh's Mountaintop Campus, and will feature panel discussions on sexual violence, alcohol and other drug abuse, and emergency response.
"Jeanne loved life, and loved people," said SOC's co-founder Connie Clery, whose daughter Jeanne was killed at Lehigh in 1986 inspiring Congress to enact the law now named in her memory. "Nothing would please her more than to know her legacy has been making students safer so they can live and enjoy life."
Participants at the summit will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from researchers and practitioners about programs that have demonstrated success in improving campus safety. At the conclusion of the event, a roadmap, based on evidence-driven results from the field, will be produced, helping to guide the future of campus safety.
Vice Provost of Student Affairs John Smeaton said Lehigh is honored to be hosting the national summit on campus safety.
"It is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the excellent work of the Clery family and of Security On Campus, Inc.," he said. "We look forward to identifying best practices to promote safety on college campuses across the country."
Securus, Inc., a market leader in GPS-based safety & security products, will sponsor the summit. Securus has recently developed a unique, comprehensive security system designed specifically to improve safety on college campuses. The system includes eClick GPS Locator and CatchATheifGPS, two new products that will be exhibited at the summit.
"We believe that one valuable tool used to help keep a campus safe is technology, and learning from participants and SOC in summits like this one will spur meaningful innovation. We are proud to be sponsoring this important summit and to meet campus security thought leaders," said Chris Newton, CEO of Securus.
