Nation's First Restaurant Incubator Accepting Applications for Second Class of Chefs
Pittsburgh-based Smallman Galley seeking chefs for 12-month tenure starting June 2017
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Smallman Galley, the country's first restaurant incubator, is accepting applications for its second class of chefs. Interested candidates can apply via the Smallman Galley website www.smallmangalley.org. The application portal will remain open until December 31, 2016.
The Pittsburgh-based restaurant concept testing-ground and groundbreaking bar program has been attracting international attention, national media acclaim, and thousands of diners across the United States since opening its doors in December 2015.
Smallman Galley boasts four up-and-coming Chefs running their own independent kitchens and testing out their individual restaurant concepts. During their year tenure, the Chefs will hone their culinary talents six days a week for the dining public, while acquiring the business skills necessary for commercial success at the end of their tenures: training modules accessible to the chefs include financial management and accounting, fundraising, staffing, branding, marketing, and leasing.
"For talented and ambitious chefs, Smallman Galley provides a low-cost, low-risk, high-visibility opportunity to showcase their talent and obtain the required expertise in owning and operating a business," said Tyler Benson, a co-founder of Smallman Galley.
According to Smallman Galley co-founder Ben Mantica, interest and inquiries are already running high among potential chefs and restaurateurs across the country.
"The first class of Chefs at Smallman Galley have been fantastic and the incubator concept has proven to be both professionally and financially beneficial for them," said Mantica. "We are eager to begin reviewing the applications for the next class at Smallman Galley and are committed to providing Pittsburgh's exploding food scene with a fun and unique dining experience."
The glowing media coverage ranges from The New York Times ("Bringing the model of a tech incubator to the food world") to Thrillist ("The best of the best drinks") to being named as one of the top 12 reasons to visit Pittsburgh by Conde Nast Traveler.
Marriott Traveler magazine makes the case that "after the first 18-month period is up, four more chefs will be selected to start on their journey toward the American dream…giving independent chefs the opportunity to showcase their talent."
Smallman Galley is located at 54 21st Street in Pittsburgh's Strip District neighborhood and features a 6,000 square-feet renovated space with a central bar area and seating for 200 patrons.
