Nature Conservancy of Canada receives Earth Day Award

TORONTO, April 22, 2015 /CNW/ - The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) has earned a national honor. The not for profit, private land conservation organization has been selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2015 in the ninth annual competition. Canada's Greenest Employers competition awards organizations that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada was honored for unique environmental initiatives, reducing the organization's own environmental footprint, and involving employees in these programs. It was also noted that these efforts have become linked to the organization's public identity and as an employer, helps it to attract new people..

These award criteria were met in the following ways:

The Nature Conservancy of Canada protects ecologically significant areas through outright purchase, land donations and conservation agreements
NCC employees are actively encouraged to "take time out for nature", volunteer and contribute to improving the natural environment in their areas.
Unique in its position, the Nature Conservancy of Canada has been better than carbon neutral since its establishment in 1962 – with its carbon footprint quickly eclipsed relative to the millions of tonnes of carbon stored and sequestered on its lands each year
NCC's "Conservation Volunteers" program involves people and communities with over 100 events annually. The public is invited to participate in tree planting, beach clean ups, stream restorations, birding surveys and removal of invasive species from lands
The Nature Conservancy of Canada provides financial support, along with professional planning and conservation expertise towards conservation projects undertaken by other local land trusts, helping them build capacity.
