"NBC Nightly News" Anchor Lester Holt to Receive Allen B. DuMont Award from Montclair State University School of Communication and Media

MONTCLAIR, N.J., Nov. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Lester Holt, anchor of "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt" and "Dateline NBC," has been named the recipient of the 2016 Allen B. DuMont Broadcaster of the Year Award. The award is presented annually to leading journalists and reporters by the Montclair State University School of Communication and Media. Holt will be honored for his more than 30-year career at a ceremony at the university on Friday, December 2.

Holt is an award-winning journalist and anchor of NBC's flagship broadcast. He was named to the role in June 2015 after eight years as anchor of "NBC Nightly News" weekend editions and 12 years as co-anchor of "Weekend TODAY." In addition, Holt has served as principal anchor of "Dateline NBC" since September 2011. He joined NBC News in 2000 and is known for his outstanding work in the field, reporting and anchoring from breaking news events across the world.
Holt is is scheduled for a number of events during his visit to Montclair State. First, he will be interviewed for the institution's public affairs program Carpe Diem. Following the award presentation, Holt will speak to students and faculty at a colloquium that will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is open to the University community.
Established in 1985, the Allen B. DuMont Broadcaster of the Year Award has honored noted individuals in the field. Previous honorees include WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck, Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville, WCBS-TV anchor Kristine Johnson, WNBC-TV chief meteorologist Janice Huff, CBS Sports announcer Ian Eagle, WCBS Radio chopper 880 reporter Tom Kaminski, WABC-TV anchor/reporter Joe Torres, WWOR-TV anchor Brenda Blackmon and WABC-TV Reporter N.J. Burkett.
Holt's visit to the University comes at an important time for the School of Communication and Media. The School is set to open the doors on its new home, an ultra-modern, 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility. It's the most technologically advanced broadcast and media production facility at any university in North America.
The School's production facilities will be equipped with leading-edge 4K and HD studio cameras, production switchers and monitors that will power the new multi-platform "newsroom of the future," along with a 150-seat presentation hall, broadcast studios, an integrated media lab, and a film screening room.
