NCAA Design Partner to Develop New Identity for Susquehanna University River Hawks
SELINSGROVE, Pa., April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- When finalists for the NCAA's men's basketball national championship take to the court on Monday, April 4, the work of Joe Bosack & Co., Susquehanna University's new design partner, will be front and center. Pottsville-based Bosack and team last year completed extensive work for the NCAA, including the Final Four identity system.
Susquehanna has enlisted the agency to create an identity for the Susquehanna River Hawks, the university's new nickname and mascot, which were announced on Saturday, April 2. The project will involve logo development, typography and mascot design. Design work has begun and will be unveiled during the university's Homecoming Weekend, Sept. 9-11.
Bosack & Co. has a wealth of experience in athletic logo development. Recognized by both sports and creative professionals as one of the leaders in the industry, Bosack and team have worked with an impressive list of higher education clients. University officials said they are looking forward to collaborating with the well-respected firm, which, like Susquehanna, calls Central Pennsylvania home.
River Hawks, which replaces Susquehanna's longtime Crusaders nickname, was selected via a vote by 4,861—or 35 percent—of the university's alumni, students, faculty and staff for whom the university has email addresses and who had not opted out of the vote. Susquehanna River Hawks was chosen from among three options, receiving 67.4 percent of votes cast. The announcement of the new nickname and mascot culminates a six-month process led by the Nickname/Mascot Special Committee, convened last fall by Susquehanna President L. Jay Lemons.
