Nearly 35,000 New York City Babies Will Experience Colic This Year
Robert Sears, M.D., Noted Pediatrician, Addresses This Top Parenting Concern and Others at 5/29/13 Event in Manhattan
NEW YORK, May 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 35,000 babies, or 28 percent of the more than 123,000 babies born in New York City this year, will be affected by colic, which is defined as unexplained crying three hours per day, three days per week, for at least three weeks. Colief® Colic Council member and board-certified pediatrician, Robert Sears, M.D., co-author of the Sears Parenting Library, will discuss this and other parenting concerns during an informative book signing event at 6:30 p.m. EST on May 29, 2013, at Duane Reade (located at 949 3rd Avenue – at 57th Street – in Manhattan).
Excessive infant crying has more ramifications than sleepless nights: it is the number one cause of Shaken Baby Syndrome, mothers of babies with excessive crying are more likely to experience postpartum depression and it can alter a mother's choice to breastfeed if the doctor suggests switching to a hypoallergenic formula.
New York area parents are invited to attend the Duane Reade event and ask Dr. Sears their most pressing parenting questions. He will also be giving away free signed copies of the latest edition of The Baby Book from the Sears Parenting Library and awarding two free passes to the Big City Moms NYC Biggest Baby Shower at the Metropolitan Pavilion on May 30, 2013, where he will also be speaking about managing colic.
New parents are also invited to find support with the Colief® community of parents on Facebook where they can enter to win a $50 Duane Reade gift card in the Colief® Newborn Needs Giveaway. The Dr. Sears event is sponsored by Colief® Infant Drops, an all-natural dietary supplement with lactase. When added to milk (a bit of expressed breast milk or milk-based formula), it greatly reduces the level of lactose, making it easier to digest in babies whose colic is the result of Transient Lactase Deficiency, a temporary lactose intolerance that occurs in approximately 40 percent of colicky babies.
