
NECO Offers The Twelve Days of Christmas Through the Eyes of our American Immigrants
NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) has penned new perspective on a traditional Christmas carol that speaks to all immigrants regardless of race, religion or ethnic background. New words to The Twelve Days of Christmas celebrates the fundamental principles of our American democracy and the nature of a country where everyone can enjoy the spirit of the season and its heartfelt wish for peace.
On the first day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us, a future founded in liberty.
On the second day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us separation of church and state.
On the third day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us three branches of government.
On the fourth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us the Four Freedoms of democracy.
On the fifth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us a five year period that allows us to proudly apply for U.S. citizenship.
On the sixth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us Senators with six year terms.
On the seventh day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us a day of rest that can be observed no matter what religion we wish to observe.
On the eighth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us a total of eight years for a President to serve.
On the ninth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us nine Supreme Court judges.
On the tenth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us the ten amendments of the Bill of Rights.
On the eleventh day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us General Order 11, an instruction to honor those who died defending our nation, an observance that has become known as Memorial Day.
On the twelfth day of Christmas my adopted country gave to us a jury trial of twelve peers to ensure equal justice for all.
And NECO added one more verse for all Americans…..
And on all the days of Christmas and every holiday we observe - a toast to a land of freedom, a prayer for lasting peace and a blessing on a place we all call home.
