Nevada Nurses' Group Applauds Governor Sandoval For Signing Bill Increasing Access To Healthcare
Nevada Advanced Practice Nurses Association (NAPNA) Welcomes New Law Allowing Patients to Consult Directly with Nurse Practitioners
CARSON CITY, Nev., June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Nevada Advanced Practice Nurses Association (NAPNA) today applauded Governor Brian Sandoval for signing into law AB 170, which allows patients to consult directly with nurse practitioners. NAPNA worked diligently during the 2013 Legislative Session to help increase access to healthcare for countless Nevadans.
Nevada now joins 24 other states and the District of Columbia with the passage of Assembly Bill 170-- a bill allowing patients to seek healthcare directly from Nurse Practitioners. AB 170 worked its way through both houses of the Nevada Legislature with unrelenting support for the Nevada Advanced Practice Nurses Association (NAPNA). The bill was signed into law by Governor Sandoval on Monday, June 3rd.
"Our members come into contact with patients every day who seek remedy for their healthcare concerns directly from these professionals," said Mathew Khan, President of NAPNA. "AB 170 will give patients options helping to decrease wait times for those needing relief. We are expecting a much higher number of patients once ACA comes into effect next year."
Implementation of the Affordable Care Act in January 2014 is expected to increase the number of patients on the healthcare rolls in Nevada. The passage of Assembly Bill 170 helps to remove barriers and improve access to care by allowing Nurse Practitioners to practice to the full extent of their training. Nurse Practitioners have been providing high quality, patient-centered care for more than 30 years in Nevada.
