LAS VEGAS and RENO, Nev., June 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In graduation ceremonies on June 13th and 15th, Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA), a statewide, online public charter school serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade, honored the 2012 graduates. This was their first graduating class with high school students who have attended the online school for all four years.
NVVA offers the award winning K12 curriculum individualized to each student's specific academic needs taught by Nevada-licensed teachers. Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds including accelerated learners, students of military families, athletes and performers, and struggling students.
The ceremonies were held at the Reno Convention Center on Wednesday, June 13 at 3 p.m. and the Henderson Convention Center on Friday, June 15 at 3 p.m. Both events featured well respected speakers in Nevada. Dr. David Holland, a history professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and recipient of Nevada Professor of the Year Award addressed graduates in Las Vegas. In Reno, NVVA was honored to have KRNV News 4 anchor Shelby Sheehan.
"We're proud to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of each of our graduates," said Mike Kazek, Head of School at NVVA. "The graduation ceremonies recognize not only their achievements, but the encouragement and support of their families and teachers."
The NVVA graduation ceremony is one of the many opportunities students have to interact face to face with each other and their teachers throughout the year including class outings, service projects, and clubs. NVVA offers an educational choice for a growing number of families that helps them succeed in school and beyond.
