New $2,000 Grant from Sketchy Aims to Advance AI-Powered Clinical Training in U.S. Medical Schools

SAN FRANCISCO, July 31, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sketchy, a leading provider of innovative learning solutions for medical education, has launched this week their inaugural Clinical Reasoning Catalyst Grant: A DDx Collaboration, an initiative aimed at advancing the science and practice of diagnostic reasoning education.

DDx by Sketchy is an AI-enabled educational platform that transforms traditional static case studies into interactive clinical simulations. Developed by academic faculty across various specialties, DDx offers a diverse range of cases, including both common complaints and rare diagnoses that students may not encounter during rotations.

This new grant opportunity invites accredited U.S. allopathic and osteopathic medical schools to apply for a $2,000 institutional award and the opportunity to collaborate with Sketchy and leading experts in clinical reasoning on the co-creation of a next-generation teaching and assessment tool: DDx by Sketchy.

DDx is an AI-enabled clinical learning platform that immerses students in realistic diagnostic scenarios. Learners interact with virtual patients and attending physicians, make clinical decisions, and receive immediate feedback, cultivating key skills in clinical reasoning.

Through this initiative, five institutions will be selected to serve as Founding DDx Pilot Institutions and will have the opportunity to:

Co-develop clinical reasoning cases aligned to their unique curricula
Assess the impact of case-based learning via feedback and performance data
Collaborate with peers across institutions in a yearlong cohort
Contribute to national scholarship through publications and conference presentations

Per the Sketchy website, applicants must be faculty at a U.S. accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school and demonstrate a clear institutional commitment to innovation in diagnostic and clinical reasoning education, among other qualifying criteria. Each of the five selected schools will receive a $2,000 unrestricted grant to support program participation and scholarly dissemination as well as early beta access to DDx by Sketchy and the opportunity to integrate its clinical reasoning cases into their curricula.
